Discover Your Urban Forest with Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree (PLT) announces the first installment in their new series of PLT Activity Collections. Discover Your Urban Forest consists of three new activities for grades 6-8 and invites learners to explore their urban environment and investigate environmental issues that affect their urban community. These activities are part of the upcoming K-8 Activity Guide, which is in the final stages of development.

And, there’s the PLT Teaching With i-Tree unit: https://www.plt.org/curriculum/teaching-with-itree/

ARIZONA GAME & FISH WILDLIFE EDUCATION UPDATE

Hello PESI Supporters!

I wanted to share this announcement about small grants being offered by the AZ Game & Fish – perhaps you have an idea for a project that we would help you with and submit a grant proposal together.
If you also happened to participate in our PESI Ecosystems project during the last year, maybe you have been wanting to do something at your school to continue your study with your students – this grant might be supportive of those efforts.
Please let me know if you have an interest in working together on a proposal/project, and also please share this with your colleagues.
Thanks much – and all the best to our classroom teacher supporters as you start back into the new school year using a virtual platform. We thank you for all you do to provide science for your students!
Respectfully,
Joan Gilbert

K-12 small grants now available

Exciting news! We are now accepting applications for our K-12 small education grants. You can get up to $2000 to help implement wildlife-focused lessons and education in your classroom. There are opportunities to fund unique, educator-designed field trips (even virtual ones). There is even an option for our former professional development participants who are looking for funds to help implement some of the strategies from those workshops. Deadline for the first round of scoring is September 1!

For complete information and to access the online application, visit https://www.azgfd.com/wildlife/heritagefund/program/k-12-small-grants/

In addition, we will be hosting THREE informational discussions: August 6 at 10am, August 7 at 3pm and August 11 at 7pm. These provides opportunities for you to learn more about the grants and to get some of your questions answered. To register for any of the free  information sessions, visit https://bit.ly/AZGFDEducatorWebinarRegistration.

We want some feedback

Which educational resources would be most helpful as you transition to more remote instruction? What types of professional development programs and topics do you need?

The Arizona Game and Fish Department would like to hear from you. Your feedback will help us plan new resources and opportunities. Please take a few minutes to complete our survey here: https://bit.ly/AZEducatorSurvey

Help us shape the future of wildlife education in Arizona!

Learning from home

While we wait for the survey results, you will be happy to know that we already have a large number of resources that work well for distance learning. We have gathered them into a single location to make them easier to access. You can find them on our Learning from Home page: https://bit.ly/AZGFDHomeLearning

Also, check out this short video. Our wildlife education coordinator describes how to access these amazing resources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gQWgV9zVcw

Did you know?
The Arizona Game and Fish Department receives NO Arizona general fund tax dollars? We hold the state’s wildlife in trust for the public without a dime from Arizona taxpayers. https://azgfdportal.az.gov/Agency/Funds

Science Kit Volunteers Needed!

PESI supporters are needed to help with the new TUSD FOSS Science Kits!  As you can see, there are hundreds of FOSS Kits that still need to be prepped for use.

Caryl will be at LIRC on Friday, August 7, 2020, starting at 8:30 AM.  Meg will be there in the afternoon.  They sure could use your help!
